D17 Democrats in the News
Congressman Harry Mitchell has received some rather, ehmmm, uncivil calls in reaction to his vote for HCR. Watch his interview on MSNBC's Countdown
D17 Demand voter-registration Czarina Genevieve Vega posted on Facebook: "I'm so proud of my D17 legislators for having such an excellent voting record for public-education funding! It looks like the best in the state! Good job Meg, David, and Ed!" See the Arizona Education Network report!
Need Volunteers Saturdays at Tempe Library
D17 volunteers are signing up voters to the Permanent Early Voting List (PEVL), registering new voters, and collecting petition signatures. People in the community enjoy seeing and talking with us and look for us on Saturdays! Please sign up for a 2-hour shift (11am–1pm or 1–3pm) on a Saturday in April. Email Genevieve at genmalia@yahoo.com with your availability.
Why are we so focused on PEVLS? Election officials expect that the May 18th special election (to decide the 1% sales-tax increase) will have ~75% of people vote by mail. Maricopa County has 697,531 people on its Permanent Early Voting List, including 307,000 registered Republicans and 227,000 Democrats. Those numbers, and the probable low turnout for the special election, have both sides in the Prop 100 battle carefully eyeing early voters. And beyond that election, we need to win Maricopa County to elect Terry Goddard as our next Governor!
