State Legislative Update

Witness to a Train Wreck

Read last night's tweets of State Rep. David Schapira from the floor of the House last night (and this morning).

  • I've been here for 22 hrs…still no budget signed, but House is adjourned. I'm going home now. Thanks for all your kind words!
  • It's official...longest session in history...still no budget signed, about to fall asleep on my desk.
  • It's midnight, do you know where your budget is?
  • The Senate is actually turning off the clock to pretend it isn't midnight!
  • 0 minutes left...they're not going to make it in time, but they are still rushing through the worst budget in history.
  • This is it...final hour of the fiscal year. In desperation, Republicans are passing a budget with largest education cuts in history.
  • 3 hours left...no budget. People wouldn't be running around like chickens with their heads cut off if we had negotiated this months ago.
  • 11 hours to shutdown...agencies are preparing for tomorrow. It's sad how Leg leadership and the Gov have failed the state.
  • Sales tax bill dead. What's next? Will they bring Dems to the table to preserve our state's future? By "future" I mean tomorrow.

Bocce Ball Tournament - Phil Amorosi & Mike Kuby Won!
